Welcome to BALLDONTLIE LLC ("Company", "we", "our", or "us"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of our APIs, products, software, and related services (the "Services"), including sports statistics, odds, scores, metadata, and generated content made available through the Services (collectively, "Data"). By accessing or using the Services, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you may not access or use the Services.
Plain-language permission summary: You may use Data for any lawful personal or commercial purpose, including redistribution, resale, competing products, artificial intelligence and model development, fantasy sports, gaming, and lawful betting or wagering products. You do not need separate permission from us or need to credit us. The full Terms below control, including the narrow restrictions on unlawful use, credentials, system abuse, false claims of official status or endorsement, and unverified use to accept, grade, or settle wagers.
BALLDONTLIE LLC provides Data on a best-effort basis through the Services. Data may be compiled and aggregated from a variety of third-party sources. We are not the original producer of underlying sports facts and are not affiliated with, sponsored, approved, or endorsed by any professional or amateur sports league, team, governing body, event organizer, or players association. References to third-party names, trademarks, events, or data—including sportsbook names or odds—are descriptive only; their appearance does not imply endorsement and does not make the Data an official or league-authorized feed. Data availability, coverage, and accuracy may vary by source and sport.
BALLDONTLIE LLC is NOT a gambling website, sportsbook, gambling operator, or wagering platform. We do not accept or place bets, hold player funds, determine customer eligibility to wager, or grade or settle wagers. The Data is not gambling, handicapping, financial, or investment advice and is not a recommendation, invitation, or solicitation to place, avoid, or modify any wager. Lawful gambling-industry uses are expressly permitted under Section 6, but you—not BALLDONTLIE LLC—are solely responsible for your product and its users, including: (a) determining whether your activities are lawful in every applicable jurisdiction; (b) obtaining and maintaining all licenses, registrations, approvals, and disclosures; (c) implementing all required age and identity verification, geolocation, anti-money-laundering, self-exclusion, responsible-gambling, advertising, and consumer-protection measures; and (d) complying with all other applicable laws, regulations, and platform rules. You may not use the Services or Data for unlawful gambling activity or rely on the Data as the sole source for accepting, grading, or settling a wager without independent verification. All wagering decisions and resulting losses are solely your or your end users' responsibility, and we make no representation about the legality of gambling in any jurisdiction.
BDL Lab ("Lab") is an optional product feature that allows users to create, configure, and test betting prediction models using historical sports data. BY USING LAB, YOU EXPRESSLY ACKNOWLEDGE AND AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING:
(a) We Are Not a Sportsbook: BALLDONTLIE LLC is NOT a sportsbook, betting platform, gambling operator, or wagering service. Lab is a data analysis and model-building tool only. We do not accept bets, process wagers, hold funds, pay out winnings, or facilitate gambling transactions of any kind. We do not recommend, endorse, or encourage any specific bets or wagering activity.
(b) No Guarantees of Model Performance: To the maximum extent permitted by law, we make absolutely NO representations, warranties, or guarantees regarding the accuracy, reliability, profitability, or performance of any model you create using Lab. Past performance of any model, factor, or strategy does not guarantee or indicate future results. Backtesting results are based on historical data and do not predict future outcomes. Nothing about the factors, algorithms, or calculations constitutes betting advice or financial guidance. This disclaimer does not limit the lawful personal or commercial uses expressly permitted by Section 6.
(c) Use at Your Own Risk and Discretion: Any betting model you create, any predictions generated, and any decisions you make based on Lab outputs are made entirely at your own risk and sole discretion. You are solely responsible for evaluating the suitability of any model or prediction for your intended purposes. We strongly advise against relying on Lab outputs as your sole basis for any wagering decisions.
(d) No Liability for Losses: To the maximum extent permitted by law, BALLDONTLIE LLC, its officers, directors, employees, and agents shall have NO LIABILITY whatsoever for any financial losses, gambling losses, or other damages resulting from your use of Lab, including but not limited to losses resulting from: (i) predictions or model outputs that prove inaccurate; (ii) reliance on backtesting results; (iii) any bets or wagers you place based on Lab data; (iv) model configurations or factor selections you make; or (v) any technical errors, data inaccuracies, or service interruptions affecting Lab.
(e) No Advice or Recommendation: Lab is a data analysis and model-building tool. Nothing in Lab constitutes professional betting advice, financial advice, or a recommendation to engage in gambling. This disclaimer does not limit the lawful personal or commercial uses expressly permitted by Section 6.
(f) Your Responsibility: You are solely responsible for: (i) understanding and complying with all applicable gambling laws and regulations in your jurisdiction; (ii) determining whether sports betting is legal in your location; (iii) exercising your own judgment regarding any wagering decisions; (iv) managing your own bankroll and gambling responsibly; and (v) seeking professional advice if you have concerns about gambling.
BDL StoryStats ("StoryStats") is a product that uses large language models to transform sports data into automated narratives, including pregame previews, live event recaps, and postgame summaries. Certain StoryStats audiences (such as the "betting" audience) surface betting odds, lines, props, line movement, and other market data for informational and editorial purposes. BY USING STORYSTATS, YOU EXPRESSLY ACKNOWLEDGE AND AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING:
(a) We Are Not a Sportsbook: BALLDONTLIE LLC is NOT a sportsbook, betting platform, gambling operator, or wagering service. StoryStats is a sports media and data analysis product only. We do not accept bets, process wagers, hold funds, pay out winnings, or facilitate gambling transactions of any kind. The presence of odds, lines, props, or betting-related commentary within a StoryStats narrative is editorial and informational in nature and does not constitute an offer, invitation, or solicitation to gamble.
(b) Not Gambling Advice: StoryStats does NOT provide gambling advice, handicapping advice, picks, tips, financial advice, or investment advice. References to odds, spreads, totals, props, line movement, implied probabilities, or similar betting concepts do not themselves constitute gambling advice or a betting recommendation. Nothing generated by StoryStats should be construed as a recommendation, endorsement, or instruction to place, avoid, or modify any wager. StoryStats narratives are not intended to identify "value bets," "sharp plays," "locks," or any similar betting recommendations. This disclaimer does not limit the lawful personal or commercial uses expressly permitted by Section 6.
(c) AI-Generated Content Disclaimer: StoryStats content is generated by large language models operating on aggregated third-party sports data. AI-generated narratives may contain inaccuracies, hallucinations, outdated information, misinterpretations of statistics, or errors that do not reflect the underlying data. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we make no representations or warranties regarding the accuracy, completeness, reliability, or timeliness of any StoryStats content. You should independently verify any fact, statistic, odds value, or claim before relying on it for any purpose.
(d) No Guarantees of Outcomes or Predictive Value: StoryStats narratives may describe historical trends, statistical patterns, prop pace, line movement, or situational context. Such descriptions are NOT predictions and do NOT guarantee or indicate future results. Past performance of any team, player, prop, or betting market does not predict future outcomes. You must not treat StoryStats content as a forecast of game results, player performance, or betting outcomes.
(e) Use at Your Own Risk and Discretion: Any decisions you make based on StoryStats content, including but not limited to wagering decisions, editorial decisions, publishing decisions, or decisions made by downstream applications or end users, are made entirely at your own risk and sole discretion. You are solely responsible for evaluating the suitability of StoryStats content for your intended use case.
(f) No Liability for Losses: To the maximum extent permitted by law, BALLDONTLIE LLC, its officers, directors, employees, and agents shall have NO LIABILITY whatsoever for any financial losses, gambling losses, reputational harm, or other damages resulting from your use of StoryStats, including but not limited to losses resulting from: (i) inaccurate, incomplete, or hallucinated narrative content; (ii) stale or delayed odds, lines, or statistics referenced in a narrative; (iii) any bets or wagers you or your users place based on StoryStats content; (iv) editorial or publishing decisions made in reliance on StoryStats content; or (v) any technical errors, data inaccuracies, or service interruptions affecting StoryStats.
(g) Your Responsibility When Redistributing StoryStats Content: If you incorporate StoryStats content into a product, publication, application, or other service that is accessible to end users, you are solely responsible for: (i) understanding and complying with all applicable gambling, advertising, consumer protection, and content regulations in every jurisdiction in which your product is available; (ii) providing appropriate disclaimers to your end users, including disclaimers that the content is AI-generated and is not gambling advice; (iii) providing responsible gambling messaging where required by law or platform policy; (iv) ensuring that betting-related StoryStats content is not presented to minors or in jurisdictions where the promotion of sports betting content is restricted or prohibited, when required by applicable law or platform policy; and (v) exercising editorial oversight appropriate to your use case. You agree to indemnify BALLDONTLIE LLC for any claims arising from your failure to meet these obligations.
(h) No Advice or Recommendation: Nothing in StoryStats constitutes professional betting advice, financial advice, investment advice, or a recommendation to engage in gambling. This disclaimer does not limit the lawful personal or commercial uses expressly permitted by Section 6. If you or someone you know has a gambling problem, help is available in the United States by calling 1-800-GAMBLER.
To access our Services, you must create an account and provide accurate and complete information. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and are fully responsible for all activities that occur under your account. You must immediately notify us of any unauthorized use of your account or any other breach of security. API keys and account credentials may not be shared, sold, transferred, or distributed to third parties except as expressly permitted by your subscription plan or a separate written agreement with us. These restrictions apply only to access to the Services, not to your use or distribution of Data lawfully retrieved through your account, including across multiple downstream applications or to multiple downstream users.
Subject to the express restrictions in these Terms, you may use, copy, cache, store, archive, modify, combine, analyze, publish, display, distribute, sublicense, and create derivative works, products, services, or databases from Data. Permitted uses include personal projects, internal business use, media and publishing, analytics, fantasy sports, gaming, lawful sportsbook and wagering products, and artificial intelligence and machine-learning training or outputs. You may not use Data to create or operate products or services that compete with us. You may not sell or resell Data in its original, unmodified form. No attribution, case-by-case review, or additional permission from us is required unless a separate written agreement expressly says otherwise. These permissions apply to Data you lawfully obtain; they do not expand your subscription tier, rate limits, or right to access the Services.
You may not: (a) use the Services or Data for an unlawful purpose; (b) share or resell API keys, account credentials, or access to the Services except as expressly permitted by your subscription plan or a separate written agreement; (c) bypass security controls, evade rate limits or subscription restrictions, or gain unauthorized access to the Services; (d) use automated means to collect information from or interact with the Services except through our official interfaces; (e) harm, disable, overburden, impair, or introduce malicious code into the Services; or (f) state or imply that Data is official league data, that your product is endorsed by or affiliated with BALLDONTLIE LLC or a league, team, governing body, event organizer, or players association, or that we participate in your downstream activities. You are solely responsible for how you present and use Data and for your downstream products and users.
ALL DATA IS PROVIDED ON A "BEST EFFORT," "AS IS," AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS. Data is aggregated and compiled from multiple third-party sources, and we do not guarantee its origin, official status, accuracy, completeness, consistency, reliability, uniqueness, or suitability for any purpose. Data may be erroneous, omitted, duplicated, incomplete, stale, delayed, interrupted, or corrected or changed at any time without notice. Discrepancies may exist across sources, endpoints, and time periods, and Data may not match official league statistics or final records. You are solely responsible for independently verifying Data before relying on it, especially for time-critical, safety-critical, financial, wagering, grading, or settlement decisions.
Any Data described as "live," "real-time," or by similar terms is provided on a BEST EFFORT BASIS ONLY and is not guaranteed to be instantaneous, current, continuous, or delivered within any particular time. Live Data may be delayed by seconds, minutes, or longer; arrive out of order; change after delivery; or experience interruptions or temporary unavailability. Refresh rates and update frequencies may vary. You must not rely on live Data as the sole source for any time-critical, safety-critical, financial, wagering, grading, or settlement decision and must independently verify it. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for losses or damages resulting from Data latency, staleness, ordering, correction, delay, or interruption.
Access to certain features or levels of the Services may require payment of fees. We reserve the right to change our fees at any time with reasonable notice. All fees are non-refundable unless otherwise specified or required by applicable law. Subscription cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing period. You will retain access to paid features until your billing period ends. No partial refunds will be issued. You are responsible for all taxes associated with your use of the Services.
The Services, including our software, API design, documentation, branding, and related materials other than Data, are owned by BALLDONTLIE LLC or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. Section 6 controls your use of Data. We do not claim ownership over underlying sports facts, team or player names, logos, or league trademarks, and we do not represent that we own or have cleared every third-party intellectual property, trademark, publicity, privacy, contractual, or other right that your particular use of Data may implicate. The permission we give applies only to rights we can grant and is not legal clearance from any third party. You are solely responsible for determining and obtaining any third-party rights required for your presentation or use. Except for Data as permitted by Section 6 or as allowed by applicable law, you may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the Services or included software, or reverse engineer or attempt to extract the source code of our software.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICES AND DATA ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR COURSE OF PERFORMANCE. We do not warrant that: (a) the Services or Data will meet your specific requirements; (b) the Services or Data will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, complete, accurate, or error-free; (c) results obtained from use of the Services or Data will be accurate, reliable, profitable, or lawful for your intended use; (d) any errors will be corrected; (e) the Services will be compatible with particular hardware or software; or (f) Data is suitable for accepting, grading, or settling wagers or making any financial or time-critical decision.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, BALLDONTLIE LLC AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, SUPPLIERS, AND LICENSORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR: (a) any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages; (b) any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses; (c) any damages resulting from unauthorized access to or alteration of your data; (d) any damages resulting from interruption or cessation of Services; (e) any damages resulting from Data inaccuracies, omissions, duplication, delay, staleness, correction, or errors; or (f) any gambling or wagering losses, including losses arising from accepting, grading, or settling wagers. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE AGGREGATE LIABILITY OF BALLDONTLIE LLC AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, SUPPLIERS, AND LICENSORS FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICES, DATA, OR THESE TERMS SHALL NOT EXCEED THE TOTAL AMOUNT PAID BY YOU TO US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE FIRST CLAIM. These exclusions and limitations apply regardless of the legal theory on which a claim is based, even if we have been advised of the possibility of damages, but do not exclude or limit liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless BALLDONTLIE LLC and its officers, directors, employees, agents, suppliers, and licensors from and against all claims, demands, actions, investigations, proceedings, liabilities, damages, judgments, settlements, losses, costs, and expenses—including reasonable attorneys' fees and, to the extent legally indemnifiable, fines and penalties—arising out of or related to: (a) your use of the Services or Data; (b) your violation of these Terms; (c) your violation of any third-party intellectual property, trademark, publicity, privacy, contractual, or other right; (d) your violation of any applicable law, regulation, license, registration, approval, or platform rule; (e) any content or data you submit through the Services; (f) any application, product, service, or database you build, operate, publish, distribute, sublicense, or sell using the Services or Data; (g) any claim by your customer, end user, regulator, or other third party relating to your downstream use of Data; or (h) your or your users' acceptance, placement, grading, settlement, marketing, or promotion of any bet or wager.
Our Services rely on data obtained from third-party sources and may integrate with or link to third-party services. We do not control these sources and are not responsible for their accuracy, availability, continued operation, or reliability. Changes to third-party data sources or services may affect our Services without prior notice. We make no representations or warranties regarding any third-party services, data sources, or content.
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Services at any time, with or without notice. We may also impose limits on certain features or restrict access to parts of the Services without liability. We are not liable for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the Services.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Services at our sole discretion, without prior notice, if you violate these Terms, if we suspect misuse of the Services or Data, or for any other reason. Upon termination, your right to access the Services and obtain additional Data will immediately cease. Termination does not revoke the permissions in Section 6 for Data you lawfully obtained before termination, including copies already distributed and derivative works, products, services, or databases already created, provided that your continuing use complies with these Terms. All provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination shall survive, including Sections 2 through 4, 6 through 9, and 11 through 20.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict of laws principles. Any disputes arising under these Terms will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New York, NY. You agree to submit to the personal jurisdiction of such courts. Any claim or cause of action arising out of or related to use of the Services must be filed within one (1) year after such claim or cause of action arose, or be forever barred.
If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. The invalid or unenforceable provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid and enforceable while preserving the parties' original intent.
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and any other legal notices or agreements published by us, constitute the entire agreement between you and BALLDONTLIE LLC regarding the Services. These Terms supersede any prior agreements or understandings, whether written or oral.
We reserve the right to update or modify these Terms at any time. We will notify users of material changes by posting the updated Terms on our website with a new "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the Services after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the modified Terms, you must stop using the Services.
